What’s your current role at FYidoctors?
I am the Administrative Lead at FYidoctors, Sunshine Coast in Sechelt. I support all areas of the business, interact with patients and customers, and contribute to developing a positive culture within our office through team coaching.
What made you want to work in eye care?
My husband is an Optometrist and my background is in business and accounting. Together, we acquired the practice from a retiring practitioner, and the rest is history!
What do you love most about your job?
In order to deliver a memorable experience to our patients, it requires incredible collaboration from our team. What I love most is the feeling I get after we’ve all worked together in a supportive manner, and it results in a positive experience for our patients and customers.
What’s one of the most challenging parts of your job?
Learning to be a good coach so that I can help my team be the best they can be.
What's your personal eye wear style?
Love the modern retro style! Although, I appreciate any style when it is a proper fit and provides the best possible vision.
What’s one of your favourite moments from working at the clinic?
When a new patient arrives, to be able to connect and make them feel welcome.
Where do you see the future of eye care going?
I see positive changes happening in our industry. In ‘the old days,’ patients visited doctors in order to have complete ocular health assessments. Then, the emphasis became about advertising low-cost eyewear, with little or no emphasis on overall eye health. We know eyewear doesn’t work without the eyes themselves, so we can’t leave out overall eye health from the equation. I’m happy to see the future involves a commitment to comprehensive assessments of the overall eye health with doctors who can detect and diagnose early signs of eye disorders and diseases. When this level of service and expertise is combined with quality eyewear, we have a winning formula that ensures we are able to see the best we can for as long as we can.
What’s your favourite eye-friendly snack?
I have more than one favourite eye-friendly snack. The first is kale finely cut up into our salad every night. Second, here on the west coast, lots of fresh fish!
Where would we find you when you are not at FYidoctors?
You would find me at an art show, attending a music festival or concerts, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, travelling to visit family, or anywhere warm.
What is your New Year’s resolution?
To ‘see’ more of the world.
