We are excited to welcome Dr. Brian Kelly to the team at FYidoctors – Fort Saskatchewan. Dr. Kelly brings with him years of knowledge and experience. Today, we sit down with him to learn a little bit about him, his work, and the importance of eye health.
What’s your current role at FYidoctors?
Briefly describe your educational background and training locations.
Previously worked as a Medical Lab Technician. Completed a BSc. Biology-Chemistry in 1972; Completed Doctor of Optometry degree 1979. Private practice in Fort McMurray from 1980 – 1991. Have been practicing in Fort Saskatchewan since 1992.
What makes your clinic a unique place to work?
A strong focus on personalized patient care.
What made you want to work in eye care?
An opportunity to work with patients one-on-one and being intrigued by the science and dynamics of the visual system.
What do you love most about your job?
I am most stimulated by working with people—patients and staff.
What’s one of the most challenging parts of your job?
Making sure that my work is not only technically correct—but also practically effective for the patient; this is what makes the practice of optometry both a science and an art.
What’s one of your favourite moments from working at the clinic?
Any time I help a patient solve a problem to the level of the patient’s satisfaction.
Where do you see the future of eye care going?
With today’s constantly advancing technology and related education, the scope of the doctor’s practice is constantly changing—all to the benefit of ever-improving patient care.
What is the most important advice you want to give your patients?
As the saying goes—we only get one pair of eyes—take good care of them with regular examinations—especially true as we get older.
What's your personal eyewear style?
Pretty much the same as how I dress … traditional.
Where would we find you when you’re not at FYidoctors?
Enjoying time with family and friends … helping out with a project within the community. I am also an avid football and hockey fan.
