Employee Spotlight – Nadia Ahmed

Posted on July 27th, 2016

With over 280 locations across Canada, FYidoctors employees are some of the most dedicated and passionate eye care professionals working in the industry. Meet the people who make us who we are.

This month we are featuring Nadia Ahmed, a Practice Coach out of Ontario.

1. What’s your current role at FYidoctors? Can we get you to elaborate just a little bit on what your role as a practice coach looks like?

Currently I am the Practice Coach for the two stores located in downtown Toronto – Commerce Court and College Park. I am responsible for fostering collaboration, teamwork, and high performance among team members to ensure exceptional care for all our patients. I end up changing hats on the daily as the role moves from helping staff to helping patients. We have a great team and the multi-tasking is carried on by each staff member.

2. What made you want to work in eye care?

I started wearing contact lenses when I was 11. It opened up a whole new world for me. My prescription has always been a strong one so I can relate to people having the same problems. I really enjoy helping people realize what is possible with better sight.

3. What do you love most about your job?

When someone tells me how much they are enjoying their glasses, or what a wonderful experience it was to talk with our doctors, that really makes me feel we did a great job.

4. What’s one of the most challenging parts of your job?

Hmmm... sometimes it gets interesting when a series of unfortunate events befall a pair of glasses. We have all had the one pair of glasses that took waaayyy too long to present.

5. What's your personal eyewear style?

Now this is a difficult question! I wear so many different styles. Having the opportunity to try so many different looking pieces is a major perk of the job. You will find me in quirky looking eyewear when I'm not wearing my contact lenses.

6. What’s one of your favourite moments from working at the clinic?

Believe it or not, I really enjoy inventory. The first time I did inventory was a disaster! But since then we have a plan and it works! We always make it fun with loud music and Swiss Chalet. It allows the staff to have fun as well as it becomes a single focus mission. Git 'er dun!

7. Where do you see the future of eye care going? Is there anything else you can add to this as to where you see eye care going? More technological advances, etc?

With so much information and product becoming available online, it has become imperative for us as eye care professionals to know and be in the know.... There are improvements on lens designs, surgical procedures, contact lens composition, not to mention the ever evolving world of fashionable eyewear. Our goal of creating a unique, consistent and exceptional patient experience hinges on our knowledge of the most current developments in medical eye care as well as the most up to date trends in eyewear fashion. The online experience is tempting to anyone with the lure of great product and great pricing. But great customer service is what we can use to bring back the online buyer.

8. What’s your favourite eye-friendly snack?

Grab a handful of almonds when you are on the go! Not only will they satiate hunger pangs but they contain vitamin E which has been shown to slow macular degeneration.

9. Where would we find you when you’re not at FYidoctors?

I really enjoy good food so you would find me in one of the hundreds of fantastic restaurants Toronto has to offer. So many different cuisines to choose from and it seems a new restaurant opens every week!

10. What’s your favorite place to visit in Canada?

Banff for sure! When I lived in Calgary I would visit the mountains and parks any chance I could get. Jasper Park, Lake Louise, Emerald Lake! Ahhh breathtaking!

11. What’s your favorite summer water activity?

Chilling poolside or lakeside with my polarized sunnies! Chilling is an activity, right? No?!
