Eye-healthy Watermelon-Infused Water Recipe

Watermelon is a popular summer fruit, with its low calories and high-water content, it will refresh you on a hot day.

In addition to being the perfect hot weather snack, watermelons are packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. This means they can be good for your ocular health; lycopene in particular can help to slow the progression of macular degeneration.

Keep reading for a flavourful infused water recipe shared by Crystal in our 2019 Eats for Your Eyes contest:



Herbs and spices:

- mint

- basil

- rosemary

- ginger


Optional: add one to two additional fruits and vegetables, such as cucumber, fennel, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, lemons, limes oranges, kiwi, peaches, mango


There isn’t one right combination to make the perfect refresher, so experiment with the variety of ingredients listed above.

  1. Chop watermelon, and your choice of additional fruits or vegetables, and add to a glass pitcher or jar.
  2. Add chopped herbs and spices to taste.
  3. Fill the container with filtered water, and place in the fridge for two hours. This will allow the rich flavours to infuse into the water.
