Dr. Clayton Switzer obtained a BSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology with Great Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan. He then attended the University of Waterloo, where he graduated on the Dean’s Honour List with a Doctor of Optometry. During his studies, he completed three clerkships. The first took place at Cooweescoowee Health Center in Ochelata, Oklahoma with a focus on ocular disease and therapeutics. He then spent four months in Smithers, BC learning how to best provide primary care in rural settings. The third was a rotation through specialty clinics at the University of Waterloo Optometry Clinic, focusing on low vision, binocular vision, pediatric care, and contact lenses.
Having grown up in Pierceland, SK, Dr. Switzer is happy to serve the area he grew up in and proudly calls home. He has also taken his care abroad on outreach trips to Tepehuanes, Mexico with iCare International and Mzuzu, Malawi with Canadian Vision Care. He looks forward to visiting and providing care to many more countries.
In his spare time, you can find Dr. Switzer staying active in any way he can. He enjoys weightlifting as well as playing hockey, softball, and golf.
