With over 280 locations across Canada, FYidoctors employees are some of the most dedicated and passionate eye care professionals working in the industry. Meet the people who make us who we are.
How long have you worked in eye care?
I have been lucky enough to work in eye care here in Chilliwack for almost 25 years.
What kind of work do you do at the clinic?
Currently, I'm the General Manager of FYidoctors - Chilliwack, Sardis and Hope locations. I'm also the Contact Lens Fitter and the Practice Coach, which involves working with our staff to ensure that we always deliver the high level of patient care that's found at every FYidoctors.
What is it that made you want to work in eye care?
My previous background was in Business Administration and Animal Health. I really wanted to work in an area that provided me with both learning opportunities and the sense of knowing I was helping to enhance people’s lives.
What do you love most about your job?
I love my patients and my staff. I love providing my contact lens patients with the best fit and lenses possible. I also love being able to create a positive environment for staff to work in and see them succeed.
What is one of the most challenging parts of your job?
Our main focus is our patients’ eye health. That means balancing contact lens fittings, staff coaching and admin duties, while also delivering exceptional patient care. Juggling all of those tasks and ensuring the paper work still gets done can definitely be a challenge.
What’s one of your favourite moments at your clinic?
There have been so many over the years. I do have a card on my desk from a keratoconic patient who sent me a wedding picture. On the back he wrote: “Thank you for making it so I could see my beautiful bride on our wedding day.” That is a great feeling. Honestly, any day that I see patients and staff smiling is a great day!
What services do you offer at your clinic?
We offer comprehensive eye exams using current diagnostic equipment and pretesting that includes optomap® retinal imaging, OCT, visual field testing, laser co-management, specialty contact lens fitting and corneal topography. We also offer customized lens fittings, as well as a large selection of designer and value frames and sunglasses.
What’s the most important thing people should know about their eye health?
I think people need to be more aware of the importance of eye health checks and that these regular checks can, in some cases, prevent vision loss or detect other health issues. Often people think seeing an eye doctor is only to get a prescription, but it's really so much more than that.
What do you see for the future of FYidoctors?
I see FYidoctors as the leader in the industry for eye care and eyewear. There are so many ways that the company is growing and advancing that - really, the sky is the limit. It is very exciting to be part of such a progressive company that is not only about the patient but also about keeping staff excited and engaged.
