Eye Care for Seniors

As we grow older, the risk of serious eye problems increases dramatically. In fact, Canadians over the age of 60 run a much higher risk of developing diseases and eye conditions, which can affect every day activities such as reading, watching TV and driving. That's why Health Canada recommends that if you're over the age of 60 you get a complete eye exam at least once a year or as soon as you notice a change in your vision. At FYidoctors we offer a wide range of eye care for seniors, including:

  • Seniors eye exam
  • Cataract testing and treatment
  • Custom fitting for seniors

Eye Problems in Seniors

As we age, our eyes naturally begin to strain and deteriorate. While there are a number of common eye problems among seniors, Canadians 60 and over are also far more likely to contract serious eye diseases and conditions, including:

  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Cataracts
  • Glaucoma

Many of these diseases have no symptoms until it's too late, which is why getting an eye exam is so important, particularly if you notice any changes in your vision. At FYidoctors, we can ensure your eyes are healthy and disease-free, allowing you to continue to enjoy your vision.

Vision Over 60: Conditions

As we grow older, the risks of serious eye problems can increase dramatically, with patients over the age of 60 much more susceptible to conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts. Health Canada recommends seniors get an eye exam at least once a year, or as soon as you notice any changes in your vision, so that any eye conditions can be detected and treated early on.

Eye Care Coverage for Seniors

In most cases, eye exams for seniors in Canada are fully or partially covered by the provincial government once every 1-2 years. To find out if your eye exam is covered, speak with your nearest FYidoctors optometrist.
