At FYidoctors, we believe that eye care and eyewear should be accessible to everyone. If your child is starting kindergarten, FYidoctors will cover their first pair of glasses with a comprehensive eye exam.
You can also help us help children simply by buying your child’s glasses at FYidoctors: we proudly contribute $5 from every pair of kids’ glasses purchased to the Better Sight. Better Grades. program. But if you know someone who might be in need, you can help even more by referring them to us.
Why should children get eye exams?

Learning is mostly visual. Children learn by reading the whiteboard, observing their teachers and classmates, reading their textbooks and working on screens. 1 in 4 school-aged children have vision problems that can impact their learning.

We also understand that it’s difficult for a child to communicate or self-report vision issues. While there are some signs, like moving closer to see something or squinting their eyes, we understand that these issues are often difficult to detect. An eye exam eliminates any guesswork and addresses concerns.

We’re here to help every child reach their full potential. By making eye care and eyewear accessible, we can address vision problems before children encounter learning difficulties and get frustrated.
How does this work?
It can be difficult for children to understand or communicate their own vision problems. A simple solution is a routine eye exam, where an optometrist can detect these issues before they impact your child’s learning and development. Let them focus on seeing and learning new things. We’ll cover the rest.

We’ll make your child’s first eye exam fun and easy, with maybe a little surprise! Just book the exam, bring their health card, and share this video so they know what to expect.
First FYi Glasses
If your child is prescribed prescription eyewear, we will provide their first pair of glasses at no charge, adjust them and help them adapt.
Myopia Coverage
If your child is entering kindergarten and prescribed lenses for myopia, we’ll cover the cost of their first lenses and frame.

We know we can help all children reach their full potential by ensuring they have proper vision, which is why FYidoctors created the Better Sight. Better Grades. program. With the help of schools, community organizations, and people like you, we identify children 13 or younger who may be having vision problems and who lack the means to afford proper care. We provide them with a comprehensive eye exam* and a custom pair of eyeglasses** absolutely free.
Terms & Conditions
Better Sight. Better Grades. (BSBG) will cover the cost of a first pair of prescription glasses for any child entering junior kindergarten or kindergarten across Canada. Where recommended, the program will cover the cost of myopia management lenses; however, standard fees will apply for ongoing myopia management and follow-up appointments. The program includes kids' total package frames with a 1.6 lens or polycarbonate lens, with upgrades available at an additional cost. All covered fees and costs associated with the program will be administered by the Better Sight Better Grades program including fees above the provincial coverage or personal insurance amounts.

Complimentary eyewear is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. The offer is not applicable to gift cards or accessories and is valid while supplies last. * Eye exams are part of provincial health care coverage for children under 20 years of age in ONT, under 19 years in BC, AB and MB, under 18 years in SK and under 10 years in NS. FYidoctors will cover the cost of the eye exam (for this program only) for children 13 and under in provinces that do not offer coverage and for children between the ages of 10-13 in NS.
