Meet Our Optometrists
Dr. Laurie Dodds is a born and raised Albertan, originally from Edmonton. She graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1982. During her first years as an optometrist she practiced in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In 1985 Laurie moved closer to home, settling in Calgary. She then operated a solo practice for 22 years before joining City Focus Optometry in 2007.
Laurie hopes to continue serving previous patients as well as new patients at her new location where there is more diverse coverage for unique patient needs. She has a special interest in finding the most suitable contact lenses for her patients. Other optometric interests of hers are vision therapy, working with both children and adults with eye co-ordination and visual perceptual problems.
Laurie has three terrific children and the whole family enjoys hiking, skiing, biking and kayaking together.
Dr. Annie Drouin was born and raised in a small town southeast of Quebec City, in the province of Quebec. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Montreal in 1995. Shortly afterwards she moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she practiced for four years.
In 1998, Annie followed her husband to-be to Calgary. Since her arrival in Calgary, Annie has worked primarily as an associate for Dr. Laurie Dodds and in the summer of 2007 they joined Dr. Jill Bridges at City Focus Optometry.
Annie enjoys a broad scope of practice. She particularly likes working with children and has a special interest in vision therapy and contact lenses. She always welcomes an opportunity to speak French or Spanish with her patients and now offers eye exams in French.
When Annie is not working, she is busy trying to keep up with her husband and their three little boys. Together they enjoy an active family life, filled with lots of sports and outdoor activities.
Dr. Yen Dang obtained her Bachelor’s of Biological Science from the University of Calgary and her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University in 2014. She is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Optometric Associations and is Optometry Board Certified in both the United States and Canada. Her externships training included cataract and vitreo-retinal disease treatment and management with optometrists and ophthalmologist at OMNI Eye Services in Atlanta. She further diversified her clinical experience in specialty contact lens fitting and pediatrics. Dr. Dang enjoys a diverse scope of practice for optometry but has a special interest in specialty contact lens fitting and ocular disease management.
Away from the office, she is committed to giving back and has participated in various eye care projects over seas. She often volunteers at CUPS Optometry clinic and hope to be able to do more for the community. For leisure, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, jogging, and drinking a great cup of coffee.
She believes the best part of her profession is being able to meet new people and having the privilege to use her skills to help you keep good vision and healthy eyes. Dr. Dang believes in taking time with patients and will take special interest in addressing your particular eye care needs. She welcomes all patients and looks forward to caring for you and your family!
Dr. Dang is now offering eye exams in Vietnamese.
Dr. Jill Bridges (nee McKechnie) was born in Calgary, Alberta. After graduating from Western Canada High School she attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. Jill then received her Doctorate of Optometry in 1987 from the University of Waterloo in Ontario and has practiced in Calgary ever since. She joined a Canadian company called Fyidoctors in 2016 to ensure that her patients’ receive state of the art technology and care.
Jill enjoys a broad scope of practice but has a passion for contact lenses. She has worked closely with the paediatric surgeons at the Alberta Children's Hospital customizing contact lenses for infants and toddlers. As well, she has achieved success fitting contacts for people with corneal diseases such as keratoconus and high prescriptions.
Jill has enjoyed spending time every year at the Calgary Urban Project Society (CUPS) as a volunteer optometrist. As well, she spent a few weeks in ‘old’ Kingston, Jamaica on a vision care project with the Foundation of International Self Help.
When not working she spends her personal time with her husband, son and dog. No one seems to be able to sit still for very long in the Bridges family! They love to ski, spend time at the lake, hike and travel.
Dr. Eric Wiseman was born and raised in Calgary and attended Western Canada High School before moving to Halifax for his undergraduate degree. After graduating from Dalhousie University he began his Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo. During his time in optometry school, he gained invaluable clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Ocular Disease with an externship at Jack C. Montgomery Veteran Affairs hospital in Oklahoma and an eye care service trip to Bucharest, Romania.
While in the office, he enjoys getting to know his patients and their visual needs to find the solution that best fits their lifestyle. He is especially interested in contact lenses and dry eye management.
Out of the office he can be found enjoying Calgary's pathways, golf courses, outdoor rinks and nearby skiing.
