Dr. Miranda was born in the Philippines, but moved to Canada with her family at the age of five and considers Calgary her hometown. When asked about her approach to optometry, Dr. Miranda quotes German philosopher Goethe; “You only see what you know.”
She explains that this means a heightened importance on continuing education and more technology in the office and in our approach to patient care. She says, “The more you know, the more you see. If you don’t know what you’re looking at then you don’t know what you’re missing.” She believes that more technology and education will improve the quality of life for our patients.
Her own educational background consists of three years of undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary before transferring into the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo. She graduated from the program on the Dean’s list in 2008 and received the Carl Zeiss vision fellowship for her year.
While enrolled at Waterloo she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Society and served as a member of the optometry school’s entrance committee. Dr. Miranda completed her internship with Dr. Wooldridge at the Eye Foundation of Utah.
Dr. Miranda spends her free time with her fiancé Alex. She enjoys cooking, eating out, summer hiking and travel. She also loves playing tennis, she says, “it’s a challenging sport and it’s really great for eye tracking.”
