Meet Our Optometrists

Russ Robertson

Dr. Russ Robertson was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta after which he grew up in various towns and cities in western Canada. His father was a member of the R.C.M.P., and transfers brought Dr. Robertson to Provost and Redwater (Alberta), Penticton (British Columbia), and Prince Albert (Saskatchewan) where he completed high school. From there, Dr. Robertson moved on to the University of Saskatchewan where he completed three years of an anatomy/microbiology degree, and was subsequently accepted to the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo in 1998. He graduated from this program in 2002 with honours and awards in clinical performance and general proficiency. Dr. Robertson then immediately joined the practice of Drs. Huber, Hannah, Thatcher, MacCorquodale, and Kimery where he has been practicing ever since.

Like the other doctors at InSight Vision Care, Dr. Robertson is committed to the care of his patients and is happy to provide eye care for the entire family including contact lenses and refractive surgery. He particularly enjoys pediatric examinations and has an interest in ocular pathology.

Michelle Kimery

Born and raised in Lethbridge, Dr. Michelle Kimery is very pleased to now call Regina "home." Dr. Kimery completed the pre-optometry program at the University of Lethbridge. She graduated with honours from University of Waterloo's School of Optometry in 1998, receiving the Essilor Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence in Optics, the E. F. Attridge Award for Highest Achievement in Pathology, and the Allergan General Proficiency Award. Upon graduation, she joined the practice of Drs. Huber, Hannah, Thatcher, and MacCorquodale at InSight Vision Care.

In addition to practicing at both Regina locations of InSight Vision Care, Dr. Kimery also sees patients on regular Thursdays at the Indian Head office and on some Wednesdays at the Balcarres office. Along with the other optometrists and staff at InSight Vision Care, Dr. Kimery's goal is to provide vision care for the entire family, including routine eye examinations, contact lens services, ocular disease management, and refractive surgery consultations and post-operative care.

Dr. Kimery is an active member of the Canadian Progress Club – Regina Wascana. She enjoys this community involvement as well as golfing, travelling, CrossFit, and spending time with family and friends.

Kayla Beattie

Dr. Kayla Beattie was born and raised in Northwest Regina and completed her optometry degree with the Class of 2014 at the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and Vision Science. Before moving to Waterloo, Kayla enjoyed playing three exciting seasons with the University of Regina Cougars Softball Club and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology.  After spending time in Ontario, she is happy to once again call Regina home!

As a clinical intern, Kayla spent time with a variety of eye specialists in Pinellas Park FL, Calgary AB, Saskatoon SK, and Waterloo ON. She developed an appetite for travel and spent time in Peru providing non-profit eye care services to those in need. While studying at the University of Waterloo, Kayla developed a passion for all aspects of optometric patient care. With special interest in children's vision, sports vision, ocular disease, and contact lenses, Kayla is excited to begin her professional practice with Drs Hannah, Thatcher, Kimery, Robertson, Bakouris, and Bakouris.

In her spare time, Kayla participates in dance classes, aerial yoga, softball, and hockey. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and hopes to continue to travel the world while providing eye care to global citizens along the way.

Bill (William) Thatcher

Dr. Bill Thatcher was born and raised in Regina. He graduated from the University of Waterloo's School of Optometry in 1984 and immediately joined the practice of Drs. MacKenzie, Huber, and Hannah.

Dr. Thatcher is married and has four sons. He enjoys participating in his children's activities, golf, skiing, and spending time at the family cottage. Dr. Thatcher coaches in the Regina Minor Football League and in the Regina Community Basketball Association and remains an avid Riders fan. Currently Dr. Thatcher serves as a board member for the Horizon Laser Vision clinics in Regina and Saskatoon. He also serves as a board member at the Katepwa Beach Golf Club.

Besides his professional interests in refractive surgery and contact lenses, Dr. Thatcher enjoys solving computer related vision problems and providing all aspects of family eye and vision care at InSight Vision Care's locations – Regina Downtown, Regina Rochdale, Balcarres, and Indian Head.

Garth Hannah

Dr. Garth Hannah grew up in the beautiful valley town of Lumsden, Saskatchewan and attended both elementary and high school there. He attended the University of Waterloo and in 1977 graduated from its School of Optometry.

Upon graduating from optometry, Dr. Hannah joined the, then, practice of Dr. Hugh MacKenzie and Dr. Jack Huber and has seen many changes and advances incorporated into the practice since that time. For example, optometric services have been expanded to itinerant practices in Balcarres and Indian Head on Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively, and a second Regina office was opened on Rochdale Boulevard in the Northwest part of the city in July 2002. Like all InSight Vision Care practitioners, his practice includes eye examinations for all ages, including children, contact lenses of all types and care of laser refractive patients.

Dr. Hannah’s interests outside of the practice include sailing, skiing, scuba diving, and travel. He and his wife, Leanne, particularly enjoy sailing their keel boat on Lake Diefenbaker.

Along with the rest if the InSight Vision Care team, Dr. Hannah feels it is a privilege to be able to contribute to the visual welfare of Saskatchewan residents.
