Darren, originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, was recently married in Rothesay, New Brunswick. Both he and his new wife, Lindsay, always wanted to end up back on the east coast, to be close to family and friends. Darren has a BSc ('06) and completed his Master's degree in Chemistry at Dalhousie in 2008 before going to Waterloo for Optometry (class of 2013). He did part of his clinical training in Bethesda, Maryland at the Cataract and Laser Eye Institute. Darren wanted to get into optometry around the time that he was doing his Master's degree - he didn't want to spend his life cooped up in a lab with no interaction with people. At the same time, he first started getting into wearing contact lenses and after a few appointments at the optometrist and some job shadowing, he realized that's the career he wanted to pursue. Darren did one of his clinical rotations with Dr. Saunders and when the opportunity arose to work here permanently it was and easy decision.
Darren loves spending time with friends and family, enjoys following and watching all sports, and you'll catch him on the golf course or the softball field in the summer!
