Our Story
Founded in 1951 by Dr. Glenn Springer, our practice began as a small optometry office on Broadway in Tillsonburg, built on a commitment to personalized, quality eye care. As the practice grew, it moved locations and welcomed the next generation when Dr. Dale Springer joined in 1980, continuing his father’s legacy. In 1985, the clinic became Dr. Dale Springer and Associates, expanding its services while maintaining the trusted, community-focused care families across Tillsonburg had come to rely on.
In 2017, the clinic evolved into Optometrists on Broadway, opening a modern, purpose-built space designed to deliver advanced eye care with a small-town touch. In 2022, Dr. Matthew Michniewicz became owner and operator, proudly continuing the Springer family legacy while keeping the practice local and independent. Now proudly partnered with FYidoctors — Canada’s largest network of optometry clinics — we’re able to continue growing while offering even more advanced technology, products, and patient benefits, all while maintaining the same trusted team and commitment to personalized care for our community.

What is Macumira?
MacuMira is Canada’s first and only clinically proven treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration, now offered at Optometrists on Broadway, Partners of FYidoctors.
The Macumira Treatment Process
Macumira is the first clinically approved treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration, using gentle microcurrent therapy to stimulate retinal cells and support improved function.
Treatment is painless and begins with a “loading” phase of four 32-minute sessions over the first 10 days to jump-start retinal stimulation. Patients then move to a maintenance phase with one 32-minute session every three months to help sustain results, preserve visual clarity, and support long-term eye health. There’s no downtime, so you can return to your normal activities immediately after each visit.
How Macumira Works
Macumira delivers low-level microcurrent therapy through closed eyelids to gently stimulate retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells and support overall retinal health. This treatment helps improve cellular function and may assist in breaking down fatty deposits linked to macular degeneration, supporting clearer, more stable vision.
By regularly activating retinal cells, Macumira can help maintain central vision and make everyday activities like reading and recognizing faces easier. With ongoing treatment and no downtime, it offers an effective, non-invasive option for managing dry age-related macular degeneration and supporting long-term eye health.
What The Results Have Shown
Clinical trials of Macumira have shown promising results, with all participants experiencing vision improvements. Nearly half (48%) gained at least 10 letters on a standard eye chart, demonstrating its potential to enhance visual clarity and help patients feel more confident in daily activities.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common vision condition that can worsen over time. Our optometrists can provide myopia control treatments to slow down the progression of the condition and prevent further vision loss.
Surgical Co-Management
Our doctors will guide you through all available surgical options to improve your vision. From cataract and laser eye surgery to implantable contact lenses and corneal cross-linking, we’ll help you find the right solution for your needs. We also work closely with your surgeon to support your recovery and ensure long-term stability following your procedure.
